Semantic Stretch is the term used to describe the overuse of any idea or concept that delivers an emotional kick.

It is common in communication – exploiting terms and concepts for their emotional association. Due to repeated associations, it dilutes the power of the terms and underlying concepts.

For instance, the term "Breaking News" in journalism is used to attract attention. But due to its overuse, it doesn't have the same effect it once did.

This concept is similar to Semantic Satiation where words lose meaning due to repeated use.
